turneffe atoll
yesterday we pulled ourselves away from the comfy anchorage at cay caulker, close to mainland belize, and sailed out 12 miles to turneffe atoll. this is where it gets really pure and quiet. there is so little land, and none of the whir and light of electricity. there is a great expanse of sky, and of water. there is a small fisherman’s shack on shore, and there is one other cruising boat in this anchorage we have a bit of a boat routine— sit in the cockpit with our hot cups of mocha to watch the sun rise; meditate for 11 minutes, using the “zen timer” app on my iTouch, which sounds one gong to begin, and two gongs to end the meditation; a snack of papaya with lime squeezed over it, using my new handy-dandy lemon squeezer from mexico; wind-blown yoga on the yoga deck; a breakfast of eggs with fresh salsa and toasted pumpkin seeds, and black beans, our main staple these days; listen to BBC to see what’s up out there; an exploration off the boat, around & about in the dingy; middle of the day reading/writing/snoozing; afternoon boat maintenance; sundowner drink in the cockpit & sunset drumming; another 11 minute meditation; dinner of thai veggie/chicken soup; read or write ‘til we snooze. we just got a call on the radio from the neighboring boat that there is supposed to be a weather system arriving today, so we may be here for a few days. i’ll send this on when we’re back in more civilized realms. ~robin~
